In the English countryside, following the devastation of the foot-and-mouth crisis, a neglected foster child retreats with his dog into a hidden woodland hollow known as the Dell. There, he begins to build his own world, a kingdom governed by his rules, his logic, and his sense of justice.
Behind the stories
For Peter R. Mellors, storytelling begins with a desire to release the imagination. He describes his creative process as getting the ideas in his head down onto paper first, allowing the story to take shape before returning to refine it.
Peter’s approach is not simply about writing a first draft and leaving it there. Once the story is complete, he rereads the entire book, making adjustments, editing and streamlining the narrative until it better reflects what he wants to convey. He sees the process as a form of teamwork, where ideas can be developed and improved through collaboration.
Research also plays an important role in bringing certain stories to life. When developing his writing around ancient history, Ethiopia and biblical themes, Peter has explored historical information and ancient maps to establish a convincing foundation for his imagined world. His aim is to combine the wisdom of the past with the adventure of discovery, creating stories that are both challenging and enjoyable to develop.
